Florian Palier
The Austrian guitarist and composer Florian Palier grew up in a family of musicians and discovered his love for music at an early age. He initially studied with his father Johann Palier, and later with Marco Diaz Tamayo. In June 2015, he graduated with distinction from Álvaro Pierri's class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
As a composer, performer and improviser, Florian Palier attaches particular importance to the fusion of different musical worlds. His greatest influences are Olivier Messiaen, Toru Takemitsu and Allan Holdsworth.
As a soloist and chamber musician, he is regularly invited to perform all over the world. He has thrilled audiences with his interpretation of the "Concierto de Aranjuez", his solo program "Poetry and Colours" (consisting of music of a wide range of styles, from Dowland to Berkeley, original compositions and improvisations) or his program "Bach and I" (consisting of Bach, original compositions and improvisations). In the field of contemporary music, he has worked with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
His compositions, which are published by Bergmann Edition, have received excellent reviews and are performed and recorded worldwide. Dusan Bogdanovic wrote about his Sonatina: "it (...)is very nice- it's new and follows new paths. It's harmonically and formally very sophisticated. Congratulations!“
Palier teaches a class at the Gustav Mahler Private University Klagenfurt and at the Johann-Joseph-Fux-Konservatorium Graz. From 2016-2021 he taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, as assistant to Álvaro Pierri; in addition, he is regularly invited to give masterclasses at festivals all around the world.
Palier has won numerous competitions in Austria and abroad. Concert tours have taken him across Europe, Russia, the Middle East, the USA, Japan and Taiwan. He has recorded for broadcasters such as the BBC, Classic FM and ORF. His concerts and recordings have received excellent reviews.
