Bastián Jorquera Figueroa

Bastián Jorquera Figueroa began his musical career at the age of nine, playing the flute in Chile's youth symphony orchestra "Ensamble Temporía." Later, he learned to play the piano and guitar. He wrote his first work at the age of 15, and in 2011 his first piece, "Héroe" (English: Hero) for orchestra, was premiered. In 2013, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in composition at the University of Chile, studying under the guidance of Andrés Maupoint and Pablo Délano Thayer.

 

In 2019, he won the young composers' competition of the chamber orchestra "Solístico de Santiago," and his work "Concert for String Orchestra" was premiered in the Claudio Arrau Hall of the Santiago Municipal Theatre, performed by Solístico de Santiago under the direction of Levon Ambartsumian.

 

Bastián Jorquera composed the music for eight short films, two commercials, and also for radio. He collaborated with artists from Chile, Spain, and Mexico. Since 2022, he has been studying a Master's degree in Composition with a focus on Media Composition at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, where he premiered seven works. He is currently studying composition with José María Sánchez-Verdú.
